Summer Walks
Back to all articlesWhether you’re a lifelong local or just visiting for the weekend, there is no better way to discover the hidden corners of Kendal than on foot. This season, we are thrilled to announce our Summer Walk Series of four curated strolls designed to showcase the history, nature, and riverside beauty of our town.
All walks begin at 10:00 AM on Saturdays. Lace up your boots, grab your waterproofs (just in case!), and come meet the community.
The Summer Schedule
May 30th: Vicarage Park & Blind Beck Nature Corridors
Leader: Craig Russell | Start: Kendal College
Kick off the summer by exploring the green "arteries" of Kendal. This walk focuses on the Blind Beck nature corridors - vital habitats that allow wildlife to thrive right in the heart of town. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn about urban ecology and the secret paths connecting our parks.
June 27th: Kendal Fell – The Tram Way & Serpentine Road
Leader: Chris Winnick | Start: Serpentine Road
History meets high ground. Chris will guide us through the heritage of the limestone quarries and the winding charm of Serpentine Road.
July 25th: River Reaches – The Southern Path
Leader: Chris Winnick | Start: Scroggs Wood
Cooler air and calm waters await. This walk takes us through the lush Southern Reaches of the river, starting at the ancient canopy of Scroggs Wood. It’s a peaceful, relatively level route perfect for spotting kingfishers or simply enjoying the sound of the Kent flowing by.
August 29th: River Reaches – The Northern Path
Leader: Chris Winnick | Start: Mint Bridge
We conclude our summer series by heading north. Starting at Mint Bridge, we’ll explore the upper stretches of the river. As summer begins to fade into autumn, this is a beautiful time to see the changing colours of the riverbanks and the "wilder" side of the town’s outskirts.
Good to Know Before You Go:
To make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience, keep the following in mind:
Be Punctual: We set off promptly at 10:00 AM.
Gear Up: While these aren't mountain expeditions, comfortable walking shoes or boots are highly recommended.
Stay Hydrated: Bring a bottle of water and perhaps a light snack.
Weather Wise: Check the forecast! If it’s raining, the walks still go ahead, so bring your coat and an umbrella.
